EgyptAir will operate on Saturday Nov 6,2022 its first commercial flight powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport to Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport ahead of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) set to be held in the Red Sea city 6-18 November.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement that the move is part of its strategy for achieving sustainable development and reducing environmental pollution, which includes cutting carbon emissions.
Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas said this strategy aims to make the aviation sector eco-friendly, drawing on the government’s plans to increase reliance on new and renewable energy sources.
The Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner will carry a delegation of participants to the UN climate conference.
The national air carrier is one of the world’s first airlines to use sustainable aviation fuel in commercial flights, the ministry said.
