Italian PM to attend COP27 in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh: ANSA

CAIRO – 28 October 2022: Italy’s recent Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will attend the UN Climate Change Conference of 2022 (COP27) in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, Italy’s news agency ANSA reported, quoting her office as saying.

The brand new premier will attend the World Leaders’ Summit at COP27 going down on 7-8 November.

It will follow Meloni’s first foreign trip to Brussels, which is able to happen on 3 November, her office noted.

Meloni has reiterated Italy’s keenness to boost bilateral cooperation with Egypt in various fields, including energy security, Mediterranean and Middle East stability, human rights, and spiritual freedom.

Egypt will host COP27 from 6 to 18 November with guarantees to work on turning climate pledges into motion as per the Paris Agreement.

Earlier this month, Egypt’s top climate negotiator Mohamed Nasr said greater than 90 heads of states and leaders are expected to attend the leaders’ summit at COP27, which is dubbed Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Implementation Summit.

Last month, The Egyptian COP27 Presidency called upon the heads of the state to come back and “put their political differences aside to mainly face the “real existential threat of climate change.”

Ambassador Wael Aboulmagd, Special Representative of the COP27 President said the war of Ukraine has impacted global efforts regarding climate motion and in addition had an indirect impact on food and energy.

He called for taking speed motion to deal with the climate-related issues as delaying would make the matter much harder.

He expressed his aspiration that the conference would lead to progress on mitigation and adaptation programs and a satisfactory program on the loss and damage of climate change.
