The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says a 38-year-old man died in a shooting on the University of British Columbia Golf Club Monday morning.
Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT said at roughly 9:49 a.m. the University RCMP detachment responded to reports of shots fired on the golf club.
They found a person affected by gunshot wounds and, despite life-saving efforts, the person died on the scene.
Anyone who was in the realm between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday morning is asked to contact homicide investigators.
Pierotti said the victim has been identified but his next-of-kin has not been notified.
He said there have been witnesses to the shooting but luckily nobody else was injured.
A burning vehicle was situated nearby in Vancouver in an alley at West twentieth Avenue and Crown Street shortly after the shooting but Pierotti said it’s unclear if it or a burning vehicle situated in Richmond are connected to the shooting.
The vehicle in Richmond was situated at Highway 91 and Westminster Highway.
He said police are working on gathering information in regards to the background of the victim.
