Photos: Cairo Metro’s 3rd line receives passengers for the pilot operation of its phase 3

CAIRO – 6 October 2022: Cairo Metro’s third line received passengers on Wednesday for the pilot operation of the primary a part of its phase three, which runs across 4 kilometers within the Egyptian capital.

The 3A part consists of 4 underground stations, namely Gamal Abdel Nasser, Maspero, Safaa Hegazy, and Kit Kat.

Passengers will probably be allowed to take the metro in these stations for a one-month pilot operation, three months after operating this part without passengers, the Transport Ministry said in a press release.

Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir, French Ambassador to Cairo Marc Barety, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, and officials of the National Authority for Tunnels witnesses the launch of the pilot operation.

The brand new part, 3A, will probably be officially inaugurated throughout the activities of the Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh city.

In a speech throughout the launch of the pilot operation, Wazir thanked the state of France, the French government and French corporations for the fruitful cooperation in implementing metro projects.

He also thanked the EU and its member states for the positive cooperation in various fields of transport in Egypt.

Wazir stressed that the operation of those stations today is available in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to serve the people of the areas through which the project passes.
